The availability of World War II surplus fighter plane engines had its effect on Unlimited racing in Australasia as well as in the U.S. The immediate post-war years saw the construction in New Zealand of at least three step hydroplane hulls, all of which utilized Allison V-12 power: MISS WELLINGTON, REDHEAD, and SUSAN LEIGH.

JONAS TAKES ALL
Jonas Andersson was the first boat on the water for the speed record and posted 154km/h as the best speed in the shortest straight ever raced in the championship. WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH, THE TOUGH GET GOING
Castellón, (Spain) 29th July 2006 This morning´s light breeze freshened-up and presented the drivers in the second timed trial with new challenges. It added six seconds a lap onto the times, and veteran driver Denis Jarignon came out on top with a best lap of 1:02.63 secs, just three tenths of a second in front of Steven Cook. Owen Jelf slipped into third place and just beat his brother Colin by half a second with a time of 1:02.65.

LATVIAN DRIVERS CLINCHING ON PODIUM AT CRASH FILLED EVENT
Riga (Latvia) June 4th 2006 What supposed to be an Andersson-Jelf battle turned out to be an Andersson-Touchkovs fight by the end of the third annual Latvian GP held in Riga. Poleman Andersson did just what he was expected to do during the 36 laps of the race, however the fall-out of both Jelf brothers obviously helped him to get rid of the majority of efforts, since either Owen could not even finish his first lap due to engine failure or his brother at the 20th lap was forced to return to the cranes.

ONCE AGAIN RIGA WILL START THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

The unfortunate flooding situation going down on River Danube resulted the final decision of not risking the existance of the Croatian GP but to postpone it to a safe date later during the season. ENGLISH COLIN JELF WINS THE SECOND ROUND OF BOAT GP VIGO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
Marc Rolls and him tied in the leading of the World Championship with 29 points, Colin Jelf won the second round of the Boat GP World Championship 2005 in an exciting race. The North American Jay Price took second place, and surprisingly the third went to Norwegian Rich Hakonsen, after Philip Tourre and Owen Jelf left the race.

COLIN JELF UNBEATABLE IN THE EUROPEAN CUP
It was history repeating itself with Colin Jelf winning the European Cup of Boat GP on Monday, 15th August in the field of 22 drivers at Marina Davila Sport, Vigo, Spain. Having run at the top of the field at the whole event, the Englishman and his team had a perfect weekend to remember.

THE ENGLISHMEN DID IT AGAIN!
Match Race saw again the glory of the Englishmen with Colin Jelf winning the Spanish round, Owen coming second and Marc Rolls as third. The Jelf brothers again could not be beaten and met in the Grand Finale, well, not for the first time in the history of the Matches. Marc Rolls (22, Bomba) finished on third place after beating Coenradi (14, ASV) of the Netherlands. Denis Jarnigon improved his former results in the Match Race and after his 9th place in Riga he managed to finish as 5th in Vigo, the Frenchman unluckily met Owen Jelf in the quarter-finals who rejected him from the further contests. Mikki Forss, newcomer of Finland will definitely be satisfied with his performance so far by finishing sixth.

COLIN JELF ON POLE POSITION FOR TOMORROW’S GRAND PRIX
Having achieved an even better time, Colin Jelf propelled himself to the Pole Position of the Spanish GP to be raced tomorrow in Vigo. The Jelf brothers perform spectacularly this weekend, the first session was won by Owen and now Colin is the one in the focus.

OWEN JELF IS BEST, JAY PRICE SURPRISE IN THE FIRST TIMED TRIAL!
Jelf Team would not give the dominance out of their hands, as Owen (4, Molgaard) clocked the best time so far on the 1940 meter long circuit of Vigo at the first Timed Trial during only 5 lap of the permitted 15 ones with a result of 00:44:65 seconds. An average of 2 seconds faster then the Free Practise classifications.

SUNNY VIGO GAVE A GO TO THE LONG WEEKEND OF POWERBOATING
Just at the end of the Free Practise of Saturday, the first ever Boat GP session measured the circuit. Top three fastest drivers, all with Molgaards docked lap results under 47 seconds with only a hardly recognizable difference, best time was set by Colin Jelf at 00:46:22, then by his brother Owen in order at 00:47:38, followed by Philippe Tourre clocking 00:46:49 seconds.

BOAT GP RIGA #6 RACING
After a time of thinking we decided to start up #6 Racing again for the Boat GP 2005. Jay Price will be the driver but it is the same crew. The time before Riga race was short and we had to rent a boat for Jay. The boat was not in so good race condition that we hoped and we had to do a lot of work before it started to work normally.

ROLLS SNATCHED VICTORY IN LAST LAP
It was again the last lap that decided the winner of the Latvian Grand Prix and provided an unforgettable event both for the spectators and the teams involved in the race. The thrill of course all began with the start of the Grand Prix where only 19 of the prepared 20 boats started, newcomer Andre Schuerle due to engine problems could only join the field a few laps later to take part in his very first Boat GP race.

SPEED RECORD FLAG UP FOR ARIF
Emirates driver Arif al Zafeen though could not show his best performance in the Match Race, but he fully compensates himself and his supporters with the highest Speed Record results at 173,4 km/h. Being the current top speed holder in the championship that he set in 2004 Russian Speed Record contest and still holds (183,6 km/h).

Boat GP caravan after winter break will start world title challenge on June 11th and 12th. All teams and drivers will return in Riga which last year was the best organised event. “I’m happy that Riga will be opening World Championship round. The first stage is very important for me, we will test new boats and drivers. We will try some new things and we will change match race setup for creating equal rivality between drivers. Last year problem was that drivers tried to push each other. We changed also name from F2000 to Boat GP because it’s better name for marketing and F2000 now is name of the engine.

FOUR BRITISH DRIVERS IN 2005 BOAT GP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

GERMANY WILL BE ON THE GRID AGAIN IN 2005
After some attempts in the past to represent Germany in the Boat GP Serie, the present looks more than promising for Andre Schuerle and his team who signed up for the complete 2005 Championship with his newly-formed racing squad and the ceaseless intention of Michael Werner to give another noted German driver to powerboat sport. Driver and Team Manager Andre Schuerle was born on 4th October, 1966 in Heidelberg near river Neckar in Germany. He learned driving water-skis, aqua-bike early and as a young man he started his career in OSY class and with O-700 catamarans. 2004 was the year of establishing his own racing team and negotiating with the UIM Promoter to join the Serie.
