It was history repeating itself with Colin Jelf winning the European Cup of Boat GP on Monday, 15th August in the field of 22 drivers at Marina Davila Sport, Vigo, Spain. Having run at the top of the field at the whole event, the Englishman and his team had a perfect weekend to remember.
The 30 laps of the Cup was stopped 2 times, first at the 7th lap when 2 boats of Gennady Tuchkovs and Sergey Nikitin collided with Mikki Forss of Finland and were forced to quit racing with minor injuries.
Jay Price came as second, like yesterday, continuously trying to overtake Colin. Bruno Corsin finished on 3rd place, improving 4 positions during the race, but later at the end of the post-race technical inspections was disqualified. Owen Jelf made then 3rd place starting as 9th on the grid. In front of some 11.000 spectators still, Vigo was indulged in the powerboating weekend and celebrated the triumph of the British.
Philippe Tourre closed his race at the 4th position, running without his team mate Jonas Andersson, but showing one of his personal best performance and the top five got completed by Marc Rolls.
However the racing activities are over, Monday still continues with preparations of the following Korean event as the loading of the containers are scheduled by the afternoon.
The Boat GP World Championship will go on by moving to the Far-Asian city of Seoul on the 24/25th of September, when another new venue will host its inaugural Boat GP round.
