Numerous champions have been awarded since 2002 when Norwegian Christian Sanne showed his talents to be the first ever driver to step on the World throne. The following two years saw the trophy remaining int he Scandinavian country of Sweden with the rapid and consecutive success of Jonas Andersson.
2005 became the year of powerboating genius Marc Rolls of Great Britain conquering the title at the last round of the season in Seoul.
The racing year started with a seemingly lucky streak for Rolls, snatching the podium top of Latvia GP ahead of Andersson who dropped back int he last lap of the race due to trim problems and gave an open way to the British. The results of the second round in Vigo, Spain created an exciting situation with Rolls finishing as fourth and Colin Jelf winning the event plus with an additional 9 points collected in Riga, they got tied just prior to the final round to make decision.
No doubt, the favorite of the Korea GP was Colin with a safe backup help from his teammate and brother Owen on the way towards the World title, fortune planned a different end of the event, even though Colin took pole position and had been leading until the 19th lap, a broken conrod forced him to quit racing and lett he others with the mathematic chance to fight on for the trophy. At that time, Rolls ont he 6th position, Price on 4th and Andersson on 2nd were int he fight.
The American should have finished on at least 3rd place to win the World Championship, but Frenchman Tourre did not give up his position till the chequered flag, therefore Rolls crossing the finish line on his 6th place gathered enough points to score a 3 point advantage in front of the American at the end.
With his balanced performance and previous results, it was Rolls to receive the World Champion trophy with 43 points, Jay Price became Vice-Champion collecting 31 and Andersson scored 30 points to be the bronze medalist of 2005.
