The one unique Match Race finals to see went down in Riga with the fastest 16 drivers on the Saturday afternoon. As the drivers lined up on the pontoon and fought themselves thru the Eliminators and the Quarter-finals there were only four of them to stay in the Semi-finals, namely the two drivers of Motul Team Philippe Tourre (6, Molgaard) after beating Uvis Slakteris and Jonas Andersson who sent fellow Latvian Ugis Gross back to the Pits. On the other wing, the two Jelfs met each other in the Semi-finals after Colin beating Francisco Consuegra of Spain and Owen pulling down Gennadijs Touchkovs.
The Matches of the two Motuls and two Jelfs have never ever been seen before and raised the temperature hot around the start. At the end of the Motul-battle, Tourre of France finished with a wide smile on his face, the Match of the Jelfs, followed by loud hurrays ended with the win of Owen (3, Molgaard). The two fail to score, Andersson and Colin met for the third place qualifier that was dominated by Andersson, Colin finished finally as fourth.
The two laps of the Grand Finale brought utmost success, Philippe “Motul” Tourre proved his promising best effort, but that wasn’t enough this time to beat Owen. The blue boat was once again like in 2004 and for the first time in 2006 to run the Lap of Honour in Riga, but surely not for the last time.
