 Speed Record Contest launched the daily activities on River Yang-Tze, where the most remarkable result was shown by Riga Powerboat Team’s Uvis Slakteris. Clocking the best speed of 177,2 km/h he pulled down Al Zafeen’s score of 176,2 and Owen Jelf 175,1 km/h.
The Top 6 shoot-out to declared the final grid position followed the Speed Contest, where Al Zafeen gained Pole Position by improving one place comparing to his Timed Trial results, just as France’s Philippe Tourre from his previous 5th to 3rd at the end. The top 6 positions again became occupied by Molgaards by the time of the Grand Prix.
Celebrating his start-finish victory, Al Zafeen and Colin Jelf got tied by the pionts of the World Championship, both of the collecting 35 with one win and one second place finishes. Al Zafeen missed out Latvia GP that Colin could not finish, therefore the World Championship Title is still open between the two drivers.
Denis Jarnigon of France showed his spectecular style by finishing on 3rd position, followed by returning british driver of KRB hull Steven Cook as fourth.
Owen Jelf could only make it up to the 5th position, and Speed winner Slakteris of Riga as 6th. Holland’s Johan Coenradi came as 7th, after docking a lap for buoy infridgement.
Philippe Tourre had his unlucky day on the 8th place at the end of the Grand Prix, from his original 3rd position on the starting grid, he fell down 5 places. Long time no sen swedish driver Sven Jansson after recovirn from technical problems closed his raceday as 9th and again in the top 10 Bela Cserni of Hungary has run in improving 8 positions during the event and to increase his points in the World Powerboat Championship.
After closing the inaugural Grand Prix of China, UIM Promoter Jose Luis del Palacio commented: „ After all the work done by Chinese Motorboat Association and the local organizers, who have worked very closely and successfully with the UIM, the relationship we have developed in this successful event is a solid foundation for making another one next year”
