Speed Record Contests are held in the same time with the Match Race Runs as being a kind of warm-up possibilities as well before each Match Race. Each member of the pairs takes 1 lap on the long circuit with the returning at full throttle. An Officer is positioned at the course in the finish-line with a radar system measuring the maximum speed of the boat passing by. Reaching maximum speed requires the right choice of propeller and supreme control over the raceboat with sharpened instincts. The highest speed measured in the 2003 season was set by Italian Mattia Turati at the Boat GP of Croatia clocking 181.1 km/h.
